I had to get up before the crack of dawn to catch my 6:40am flight to Paris. I basically put everything in order last night so all I had to do is get up, wash my face, brush my teeth, get dressed and leave.
I had some trouble getting asleep but I don't know why. Yesterday in the late afternoon I was like the walking dead. I was so tired. At one point when I arrived at the Piccadilly metro station I actually sat on one of the benches and watched the world go by for a while.
Later after passing through Regent Street I stopped at a Starbucks for some coffee to perk myself up. I sat there tapping at my Blackberry and doing some emails (in a cozy, but very worn chair) for about a half hour. Later when I returned to my hotel I realized that I smelled like stale coffee.
Have you ever sat at a Starbucks for any period of time? If you have you may know what I mean. Usually if I stay there more than a few minutes you clothes start to stink like coffee. Last night I sprayed my coat with Frabreze (is that how you spell that?) and hung it near the open window all night but it still stinks. Funny but I had a similar experience with one of my other jackets last week when I went to a Mexican restaurant. The coat stunk of onion for days.
The Kensington Close Hotel arranged a private car for me to the airport for £32 which seemed like a good deal for direct private car service.
There was no wait at Heathrow this morning and I passed through customs and headed to the BMI business class lounge. Before going to the lounge I stopped at a few shops to spend my last few British pounds. I simply walked away with a bacon sandwich (to eat on the flight), a Cadbury chocolate bar and some gummy fruit candies.
The waiting area of Heathrow airport is like a big shopping center. If I took you there blindfolded and didn't tell you where you were you would say you are at a mall. The duty free shops usually have some pretty good deals, especially on fragrances and colognes, but this morning I spritzed for free.
The BMI lounge is nothing too special but is slighty more comfortable than the general waiting area. There are some free beverages, wine and limited spirits, but it's too early in the morning for that! Actually if I wanted to take a nip in some juice no one would know since I am the only person in the lounge this morning.
I don't know why I am so hung up on using the lounges, they are ok but nothing too special.
It's time to head to my gate.
