I've been thinking about pancakes all nice since I saw this place in The Rocks. Pancakes on the Rocks is your everyday Aussie pancake house which is good for breakfast as well as lunch.
In addition to a wide variety of breakfast panckae combos, they also have savory panckakes, crepes and pizza which are good for lunch or dinner. Prices are pretty good considering anywhere from $8-12 for breakfast combos and around $15 for pizza and savory pancakes. If you are like me and need a sweet after you meal there is a huge variety of dessert pancakes and crepes. If you are like other people eating here just get the pancakes with strawberries and ice cream and have a really good breakfast!
Even though there are a number of combos I order the more simple stack of 3 pancakes $7.95 (US$6.35) with a side of bacon $2.75 (US$2.20). When my order comes the pancakes are huge! Rather then being the thin style pancake these are thick and cakey. I think I would have been fine with a stack of 2 but I eat them all anyway. Hog! Speaking of hogs, the bacon here in Australia is so yummy. It's not like that fatty crisp stuff we eat at home but here it's got fat but is very meaty and not served crisp. It's more like ham.
The atmosphere at Pancakes on the Rocks is nothing to speak of. It's just a pancake house with non-descript furniture and sticky tables. The staff is friendly but they don't go any further than that.
For food the get a solid 4 and for atmosphere and service a 2. For price/value this is a 5 because you can't find too many places with good cheap food in this area (try the Alpha Cafe next to the Marriot!). Your entire meal here can cost as much as a starter in a fancier restaurant!
Total bill including coffee - $13.65 (US$10.90)
Pancakes on the Rocks, 10 Hickson Street in the Metcalfe Arcade (you can also enter at 80 George Street), The Rocks, Sydney
Remember... Everyone loves pancakes!

OK, so they still use British style bacon in Australia; I guess they haven't taken on too many American habits. Good to know; I prefer American-style bacon; I'm not into fried ham.
