It's Tuesday morning here in Australia and I am having my last breakfast in bed I picked up my breakfast this morning at the Alpha Cafe which is at 38 Pitt Street next to the Marriott. This morning I got my usual bacon, egg and cheese on a grilled roll at $4.30 (US$3.80) it's one of Sydney's best values! In addition, this morning I got a "small" yoghurt with fruit and museili. I've been eyeing this every morning and didn't want to leave Australia without trying it. The "small" is actually a good size and is thick full cream yoghurt topped with honey, muiseli (how do you spell that), strawberries, melon and grapes. Again for $3.80 (US$3) is a delicious buy.
As I said it's my last morning here and I have to pull myself together to get to the airport for a 2.45pm flight. I guess I have to leave here by about 11am. I am taking the train to the airport because it's fast and cheap (about$12)
It's hard to believe that in about a day I will be back in ny house, back in my car, back in my office. I'll complain about the traffic, bitch about my job and wonder why my local supermarkets don't sell imaginative stuff like I see overseas.
As I return I will have fond memories of my travels, adventures and enrichment then I will pledge to lead my life differently. After a few days I'll get back into the swing of New Jersey life and fall back into the same old routine.
I have been in Australia for over ten days and I really feel like I got a vibe for the country, it's people, shopping, televisions and food. That's why I came. The funny part is how you can be on vacation and it slip into a different world and lifestyle and then return home and POOF!, it's all gone in a flash.
A few weeks after you return you are having a bad day at work and you reach into your wallet or bag and out falls an old museum, airline or train ticket stub. For a brief moment you are whisked to a land far away and memories of a better day. You tuck the stub back into you wallet with hopes of finding it again soon.
I always take all my favorite photos and convert them onto my screen saver at home or work. When the day is just going on and on, I look into my screen saver and watch the slideshow of "vacations past". As I watch the slideshow it reminds me why I have to work.
Next stop, Sydney airport.
